The Wyldes Festival 2024 Review by Jamie Sinclair

The Wyldes Festival in Bude 2024 was an unforgettable experience that perfectly encapsulated the spirit of summer music festivals. Nestled in the picturesque countryside of Bude, Cornwall, The Wyldes featured a unique blend of natural beauty and vibrant music, making it a standout event on the Southwest festival calendar.

From the moment you arrive, the charm of The Wyldes is evident. The festival grounds are set amidst rolling hills and lush greenery, providing a serene backdrop that contrasts beautifully with the energetic atmosphere of the festival. The layout is thoughtfully designed, with ample space for camping, food stalls, and various stages, ensuring that attendees can easily navigate and enjoy all that the festival has to offer.

One of the highlights of The Wyldes 2024 was undoubtedly the diverse and impressive lineup. This year, the festival featured a mix of established acts and emerging artists, catering to a wide range of musical tastes. Headliners included the legendary Scottish rock band Simple Minds, who delivered an incredible, powerful and nostalgic performance that had the crowd singing along to every song – including the highlight “Don’t You Forget About Me”. To see thousands of fans truly in sync with the music was an incredible experience.

Dance music icons Underworld also graced the main stage, bringing their infectious beats and mesmerizing light show to the delight of festival-goers.

The festival’s commitment to showcasing new talent was outstanding with performances by rising stars like Anne-Marie and Mae Stephens. Their sets were a testament to the festival’s dedication to providing a platform for fresh voices in the music industry. The final night was particularly memorable, with the South West punk band IDLES delivering an electrifying performance that left the audience buzzing with energy.

Beyond the music, The Wyldes offers a plethora of activities and amenities that enhance the overall festival experience. Very well organised and value for money. The food stalls are a culinary adventure in themselves, offering a wide variety of delicious options to suit all dietary preferences. From Woodfired Pizzas to vegan delights, there was something to satisfy every palate. The festival also featured a selection of local craft beers and ciders, allowing attendees to enjoy the best of Cornwall’s brewing scene.

The Wyldes is also known for its unique art installations and interactive experiences. This year, the festival grounds were adorned with stunning visual art pieces that added an extra layer of creativity and wonder to the event. One standout installation was a post-apocalyptic car on fire, which became a popular photo spot and conversation starter.

The sense of community at The Wyldes is in the air as soon as you arrive. The festival attracted a diverse crowd of music lovers, from young families to seasoned festival-goers, all coming together to celebrate their shared love of music and the arts. The atmosphere was friendly and inclusive, with everyone looking out for one another and creating a safe and enjoyable environment.

Camping at The Wyldes is a highlight in itself. The campsite is well-organized and offers a range of options, from basic tent pitches to luxurious glamping setups. The facilities are clean and well-maintained, ensuring a comfortable stay for all attendees. Waking up to the sound of birdsong and the sight of mist rolling over the hills is a truly magical experience that sets The Wyldes apart from other festivals. For future years to come these sell out very quickly so it is advisable to book early for 2025.

The festival’s organisation deserves special mention. The team behind The Wyldes has clearly put a lot of thought and effort into ensuring that everything runs smoothly. From efficient entry procedures to well-signposted facilities, every aspect of the festival is designed to enhance the attendee experience.  The staff and volunteers are friendly and helpful, always on hand to assist with any queries or issues.
