Cornwall Folk Festival: Top National And Southwest Music in Intimate Town Setting

This August Bank Holiday Cornwall Folk Festival brings an exciting mix of top national and regional contemporary folk music artists to the North Cornwall town of Wadebridge.

In the evenings you can enjoy double-bill indoor concerts. In the daytime relax at the outdoor FAR Stage with back-to-back Cornish and Southwest acts.

Artists include Bristol’s bubbling Tarren, gutsy vocals from Daphne’s Flight, exquisite vocal harmony from Lady Maisery, and powerful songs of struggle and hope from Reg Meuross. Americana angelic duo True Foxes open the first night, two award-winning

Cornish language songwriters Richard Trethewey and Annie Baylis share a bill, and Cornish bard Mike O’Connor weaves compelling tales of Merlin and Cornish identity.

We open with a Nos Lowen from Bagas Fellyon and close with another from Jackson’s Claret. In between the FAR Stage hosts a varied programme, from get-up-on-your-feet acts like Du Glas, The Stowes and Smokin’ Pilchards and folk-rock bands like River Blue and Annown to shanty groups and solo acts, including young rising talents Toby Webb and Martha Woods.

With a low-cost entry and a fixed fee for families, the FAR Stage is the place to hang out daytime.

With this plus free sessions in local pubs, music and morris dancers in the street and town centre bars, and morning workshops, the festival is a fun, long weekend that brings the best of folk to Cornwall and showcases Cornwall to the world, all in an intimate, mud-free town centre setting.

As several locals said after the 50th outing last year – “it was like being on holiday in your own town!”

The 51st Cornwall Folk Festival runs from Thursday 22nd to Monday 26th August in Wadebridge, North Cornwall.
