Bijou Theatre Productions Presents Agatha Christies’ Black Coffee @ Palace Theatre Every Tues, Wed & Thurs from 10th June – 31st July

Bijou Theatre Club is celebrating its 70th year in operation! We have always tried to find quality plays that will entertain the local community.

Perhaps the most surprising piece of information is that we first performed an Agatha Christie thriller in 1984. The play was Towards Zero, which due to television remakes, has changed considerably from our version of the play.

This year we are presenting Black Coffee – the only play available with that famous Belgian detective, Hercule Poirot.

We are delighted that Sarah Caplan is directing again for us this year. She has such an imaginative approach to breathe fresh life into plays, always finding new angles.

This is a tricky case for Hercule! He is summoned to the house of the eminent scientist Sir Claud  Amory who fears a secret formula for a new explosive has been stolen. The tension mounts after a murder is committed – and believe me there is no shortage of suspects! There is twist upon twist and right up to the end people are left guessing who the murderer is. No one is quite who they seem.

We are delighted to welcome James Mackenzie -Thorpe as Poirot. He is a superb actor and will make this part his own. We have assembled a great cast some new faces some familiar ones to the Agatha Company.

This is a superbly crafted Whodunnit with endless red herrings, sub plots and is considered one of her most gripping country house thrillers.

Black Coffee will be playing at The Palace Theatre Paignton every Tue, Wed & Thu at 7.30pm from 10th June to 31st July 2025.
