Fans of soul and Motown are in for a treat when Roy G. Hemmings, the longest-serving former member of the legendary Drifters, returns with his spectacular Hits of Motown Show to the Babbacombe Theatre on Saturday 22nd August at 7.30pm.
A true showman with a career spanning over four decades, Roy worked alongside Drifters founder Johnny Moore for more than 20 years, performing around the globe with his smooth vocals and relaxed style. His impressive career includes appearances in several Royal Variety Shows and two special performances at The White House for President Bill Clinton.
Roy first found chart success in the mid-1970s with the J.A.L.N. Band, one of the first UK groups to break through with disco, hitting the charts with Disco Music, I Like It, produced by Pete Waterman. His solo work has also been celebrated, including his acclaimed album All Talked Out, featuring a soulful rendition of the Drifters’ classic Like Sister and Brother.
For this unforgettable evening, Roy will be joined by the glamorous Love Supremes, whose silky harmonies and slick choreography add an extra sparkle, and the powerhouse Dictionary of Soul Band, creating a full live Motown experience.
The Hits of Motown Show features the very best from The Supremes, Martha Reeves & The Vandellas, The Four Tops, The Temptations, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Lionel Richie – and, of course, The Drifters. Expect classics such as Stop! In the Name of Love, Dancing in the Street, I Can’t Help Myself, I Heard It Through the Grapevine, My Girl, Reach Out I’ll Be There and many more.
