Mike Osman brings his hilarious tribute to legendary comedian Jethro, “Whatever Happened to Denzil Penberthy?”, to the Babbacombe Theatre, Torquay on Friday 18th September at 7.30pm.
A close friend of Jethro, Mike Osman is perfectly placed to celebrate the life, humour and extraordinary storytelling of one of the nation’s best-loved comedians. This is far more than an impression show – it is a heartfelt celebration packed with laughter, memories, classic material and plenty of new jokes along the way.
There was only one Jethro, renowned for his distinctive delivery, cheeky humour and wonderfully entertaining stories. Mike’s uncanny impression captures the voice, mannerisms and unmistakable twinkle in Jethro’s eye, bringing his much-loved character back to the stage.
Mike’s personal connection makes the tribute particularly special. Jethro’s widow, Jennie, has given Mike her full support, believing he is the person who can do justice to Jethro’s memory. She even gave him four of Jethro’s iconic ties – a touching reminder of the friendship they shared.
The show combines some of Jethro’s classic comedy and much-loved stories with new material that Mike believes Jethro himself would have enjoyed. The result is a nostalgic but fresh evening celebrating a true comedy original.
Mike is an accomplished comedian and impressionist who performed regularly on ITV’s Copycats. His tribute to Jethro, however, comes from a much more personal place – one built on friendship, admiration and a genuine understanding of the man behind the comedy.
