Babbacombe Theatre Marks 40-Year Milestone with Spectacular New Production CELEBRATION
Babbacombe Theatre enters a landmark year in 2026 with the launch of CELEBRATION, a brand-new variety production honouring four decades of creative leadership from acclaimed producer and director Colin Matthews, now celebrating his 40th year at the theatre.
Running on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 17 February through to 14 October 2026 at 8:15pm, with a special matinee performance on Wednesday 12 August at 2:30pm, CELEBRATION brings together the very best of live entertainment in a vibrant tribute to the theatre’s rich legacy.
In a world increasingly shaped by technology, CELEBRATION proudly champions the enduring magic of live performance. Audiences are treated to an exhilarating blend of musical theatre favourites, iconic pop anthems, cinematic soundtracks and classic comedy, all presented in the much-loved variety style that has become synonymous with the Babbacombe Theatre.
Comedy Excellence Award winner Steve Laister headlines the show, bringing his unmistakable energy, sharp wit and dynamic vocals back to the stage. Frequently praised by reviewers as “a performer who should be on television,” Laister delivers brand-new comedic material while effortlessly keeping audiences engaged from start to finish.
Joining him as special guest is Daniel Dean, British Magical Champion of Illusion and a firm favourite with Babbacombe audiences. His visually stunning illusions and charismatic stage presence promise moments of astonishment and wonder throughout the production.
The musical heart of CELEBRATION is led by three returning audience favourites. Internationally in-demand performer, Lorna Amy Sullivan brings her exceptional vocal talent back to the theatre, while Paul Cobley returns by popular demand with his rich West End tenor voice. Completing the trio is acclaimed actress and vocalist Claire Waring, delivering a selection of iconic, show-stopping numbers befitting a true celebration.
Behind the scenes, a dedicated creative team ensures the production sparkles at every turn. Danze Chique, the theatre’s resident dance company, continue to raise the standard under the dynamic choreography of Lucy O’Neill, supported by exciting musical arrangements from Pete Leonard. General Manager Sharon Waring oversees the dazzling costume designs that enhance every aspect of the show, while the much-loved junior cast, Kidz & Co, add their own charm and youthful energy, proudly reminding audiences to Never Grow Up.
