Bijou Theatre Production’s is delighted to be presenting Towards Zero by Agatha Christie.
The last time we did it was some 40 years ago. For ages it was unavailable for amateurs to perform. Back in those days we had a professional company and everyone had to belong to Equity and Jill and I were young enough to play the female leads. At the time we were friends with John Boulter the Black and White Minstrel singer who wanted to break into straight acting so we gave him his first straight acting role as Inspector Battle which he absolutely loved. We played for 17 weeks and it was a great success.
So it is with great delight that we return to this play after so long and that the directing is in the hands of James Mackenzie Thorpe who has chosen a strong cast.
The play is a true Agatha with red herrings and twists and turns of plot. This one will keep you guessing right up to the end! It is a cleverly crafted plot and full of suspense and surprises. Set in a large house on a cliff near the sea crashing on the rocks below the perfect setting for a murder. An ill matched number of house guests relationships are strained to the limit – something is bound to happen and it does!
This is a milestone for us as we have been at the Palace 40 odd years and this is the play that kicked off our interest in using the Palace as our new venue. Our original little theatre in the heart of Paignton and so we moved to the palace in 1986. So, this play is very nostalgic for the Bijou and we are proud to be presenting it again.
